This new feature analyzes changes made to user files, enabling users to prevent ransomware encrypted data from being written to disk. Data Sentinel ensures ransomed data will never be saved to disk, by conducting analysis to determine if data has been encrypted. The new feature analyzes data on a mirrored overlay, and identifies previously unencrypted data from data newly encrypted. The user can then carefully assess if the data is safe. If they find encrypted data determined as ransomware, they can remove it with a single click. These articles discuss the effects of ransomware as well as some of the top products to help protect corporations from ransomware. As Techie Gamers mentions, “lately ransomware attacks have been receiving a lot of attention in the media, forcing users and businesses to pay a ransom.” It goes on to say that “after an attack you [need to] get your computer operational again without wasting too much time”. We first used antivirus with signature-based detection to monitor programs, scanning the contents to see if code within files matched known malware threats. Signature-based security can only defend against what is already known. Next-gen detection can protect against threats through classification, comparing known good and known bad applications. They analyze patterns to generate rules that determine if the behavior is closer to a good application or bad application. They allow or disallow based upon that analysis, building a new behavior rule or decision tree. Cybersecurity is a continual cat-and-mouse game. Sophisticated hackers have ways to deceive AI by manipulating code. They’re adept at creating new patterns that are unique. Even next-gen security tools need regular updates to their rule sets, just as antivirus vendors need to update their signature databases. They will always be adding new things they didn’t know about and couldn’t detect before. Let’s face it, if these products actually could detect every known and unknown threat, they would never need updating.
